"Oriental Consultants Daito Setsubi Alliance" will build a mega (large-scale) solar power plant with an output of about 1MW by borrowing a banking slope surface of the Ariake Engan Road from the government of Saga Prefecture.

This was announced by Oriental Consultants Co Ltd, a construction consultancy company, July 7, 2014. Oriental Consultants Daito Setsubi Alliance is organized by Oriental Consultants and Daito Setsubi.

It will be Japan's first mega solar project that is carried out by public and private organizations by using a road site, Oriental Consultants said.

The prefectural government lends the slope surface facing south on the Ariake Engan Road in Kubota-chou, Saga City, for free, but it will become unnecessary for the government to pay for the maintenance of the road and area surrounding it.

For 20 years, during which Oriental Consultants Daito Setsubi Alliance will run the power generation business with the plant, it will check the road surrounding the solar power generation system and road-related objects for free. Also, it will continue to, for example, remove weeds, maintain the slope surface and report the results to the prefectural government.

At the time of a large-scale disaster, the solar power generation system to be installed on the slope surface functions as an independent power source that is available to local residents.

The solar panel and PV inverter for the plant have not been decided on yet.
