Opencube Inc, a Japan-based firm, developed a 3D printer and will release it July 29, 2013.
The price of the printer "Scoovo C170" is ¥180,000 (approx US$1,790, excluding tax). It uses PLA (polylactic acid) filament as a material for forming an object. The maximum size of an object that can be formed by the printer is 175 (H) x 150 (W) x 150mm (D). The minimum thickness of an accumulated layer is 100μm. The printer has one print head.
The Scoovo C170 is manufactured in Japan. Scoovo Studio, which is software for modeling and used with the printer, and the manual for the printer are offered in Japanese.
The Scoovo C170 consists of (1) the main body of the printer, (2) 120W AC adapter, (3) A-B-type USB2.0 cable for transmitting file data, (4) roll of PLA filament (white, 1kg), (5) USB memory and (6) warranty card for the hardware. The USB memory stores Scoovo Studio, the manual and 3D model data for test (STL file).
The main body of the printer measures 404 (H) x 376 (W) x 333mm (D) and weighs about 15kg. For the case, 1.2mm-thick steel plates are used and finished with hairline pattern and alumite treatment. The print head and the rail that guides the modeling table are made of aluminum alloy, ensuring the rigidity of each part and improving stability.
