Nihon Green Packs Co Ltd exhibited the "Windoro" window cleaning robot at the 74th Tokyo International Gift Show, which took place from Sept 5 to 7, 2012, in Tokyo.
The robot consists of two units, which sandwich a window glass and synchronously move from side to side and up and down. It can be used for windows whose thicknesses are from 5 to 15mm.
One of the two units is the "external surface cleaning unit," which is equipped with four rotating circular pads and ejectors for liquid detergent. And the other is the "internal surface navigation unit," which has drive wheels. The two units are attracted to each other by the force of permanent magnets. And the external surface cleaning unit follows the movement of the internal surface navigation unit.
The robot works as follows. The two units are placed on a window glass so that they sandwich a portion of the glass. When the start button is pressed, the robot moves from side to side and up and down once to measure the size of the glass. Then, it moves to the upper end of the glass and begins to move from side to side, gradually lowering its altitude.
If the width of a window is 2m or more, the robot cleans it by splitting it into two areas. When the cleaning task is completed, the robot moves to the initial position and stops.
