Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) Co Ltd exhibited its 55-inch OLED TV at SID 2012, which runs from June 3 to 8, 2012, in Boston, the US.
The TV is scheduled to be released by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in 2012. At the SID, SMD disclosed the specifications of the 55-inch OLED panel. At the 2012 International CES, which took place in January 2012 in Las Vegas, the US, the company unveiled only some of the specifications.
The 55-inch OLED panel has a contrast ratio of 150,000:1 and a 124% color gamut on NTSC standards. Its brightness is 150cd/m2 with an all-white signal, and its peak brightness is 600cd/m2. Its response speed is 0.001 second or faster. The weight of the panel is 3.5kg, and the thickness of the TV is 1.6mm.
Low-temperature polysilicon TFTs were employed as driver elements. SMD realized color display by using red, green and blue (RGB) light-emitting devices. The structure of the panel is a bottom-emission type, which extracts light from the TFT board.
Low-molecular light-emitting devices were formed by using a mask vapor deposition method. It is rumored that SMD has employed the "SMS (small mask scanning)" technology, which moves a small mask for vapor deposition, for its 55-inch OLED panel. But the company declined to disclose the details of the technology.
