Marubeni Information Systems Co Ltd (MSYS) will start a build-to-order service by using a 3D printer Nov 25, 2011.

The company expects that the service, "MSYS On-demand Production Service," will respond to demands to purchase custom-made products produced in small quantities, forming dies for resin, tools, service parts, etc without trouble, at low costs and in a short period of time.

For the 3D printing service, MSYS will use Stratasys Inc's printer, which discharges acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), etc from its movable nozzle while melting it with heat and accumulates it. It is possible to select from nine kinds of materials including (1) polycarbonate (PC), (2) polyphenylsulfone, which has excellent heat and chemical resistances and (3) polyetherimide, a fire-resistant (UL 94 V-0) material that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved for use as a material for aircraft parts, in addition to ABS resin.
