Daio Paper Corp announced Sept 25, 2018, that it will install facilities for using waste water produced in the process of producing kraft pulp and generating biomass at its Mishima Plant (Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan).

The facilities use the technologies of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Environment Co Ltd's anaerobic treatment system. They are scheduled to start operation in October 2020 as one of Japan's largest anaerobic treatment systems.

Biogas produced with the facilities will be used for a lime calcination kiln in the Mishima Plant, as heavy oil alternate fuel. The amount of biogas is expected to be equivalent to about 5,000kL of heavy oil per year.
