Kaneka Corp announced Oct 27, 2016, that the conversion efficiency of its crystalline silicon (Si) photovoltaic (PV) module has reached 24.37%.

The efficiency was measured by Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). It is higher than the efficiency SunPower Corp announced in June 2016 (24.1%) and is the world's highest efficiency of a crystalline Si PV module.

In September 2016, Kaneka announced that it has achieved a conversion efficiency of 26.33% with a hetero-junction back-contact crystalline Si PV cell (See related article). This time, the company used 108 units of the same cell and made its own improvements for reducing loss caused by inter-cell connection and improving light collection efficiency. As a result, it realized the world's highest efficiency with the module, too.
