The government of Yamagata Prefecture announced its efforts for the verification test of an "agricultural solar power plant" (solar sharing) for growing bracken.

The government started operation of the plant in November 2014 by installing a 10kW solar power plant. Specifically, 112 monocrystalline silicon solar panels (105W each), measuring 0.55 x 1.2m, were set up above a bracken field. The angle of the panels is continuously variable within a range of 30-90° so that sunlight can be taken in.

At this point, the yield of bracken is expected to decrease by less than 20% due to the installation of the panels, the government said.
