At the new plant, TMEIC will manufacture 1MW (rated output) and 2.55MW PV inverters. The company has been selling mainly 1MW products in India, but, after the start of the operation of the new plant, it will start local production of a 2.55MW product. It is the latest product supporting DC 1,500V and was released in Japan in the spring of 2017.
In fiscal 2016, TMEIC shipped about 1.15GW of PV inverters in India. The sales of TMEIC's power electronics products reached about 2.8 billion rupees (approx ¥4.5 billion) in fiscal 2016. The company aims to increase sales in India by more than 100% in three years and to about ¥22 billion (approx US$195 million) by fiscal 2020.
About 330 employees are working at the new power electronics plant and the adjacent motor plant. TMEIC will increase the number of employees to about 500 in two years.
The ceremony that took place Sept 25, 2017, was participated in by about 500 people including Kenji Hiramatsu (Japanese ambassador to India), people related to the government of Karnataka State, employees at the plant and buyers of power electronics products.
On the roof of the new plant, 930kW of solar panels were installed for self-consumption and supplying surplus electricity to a power grid. TMEIC will introduce a storage battery system and "TMBCS (TMEIC Battery Control System)" in the spring of 2017 and operate the plant for the verification of "energy circulation plant," which integrally controls a solar power generation system and storage battery.
