Hiroshima Gas Co Ltd and The Chugoku Electric Power Co Inc announced July 28, 2017, that they will form a joint venture to build a coal-fired power plant using biomass in Kaita-cho (town), Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
They aim to start construction of the plant in fiscal 2018 and commercial operation in fiscal 2020. The rated output of the plant will be about 100MW. It will combust coal, biomass and natural gas.
Various unused materials such as woods left on forest land in the prefecture and woody biomass from foreign countries will be proactively used. The goal of the ratio of biomass is 45%.
