X-Elio Japan announced Aug 15, 2016, that it will build about 50MW of "solar-sharing" systems, which use sunlight for both power generation and agriculture, in Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate and Ibaraki prefectures by temporarily converting land category.

Juwi Shizen Energy Inc (a developer of solar power plants), Marubun Corp, which has experience in supporting the construction of solar sharing systems, and X-Elio Japan agreed to co-develop solar sharing systems.

They aim to develop about five projects, each of which has an output of about 10MW. Each agricultural/power generation site measures 30-50ha and is located in either the Northern Kanto or Tohoku region of Japan. Pasture grass will be grown at those sites.
