Orix Corp established a wholly-owned subsidiary that operates, manages and maintains power plants using renewable energy such as sunlight June 1, 2018 and started operation of the subsidiary Sept 5, 2018.

The new company, "Orix Renewable Energy Management" (Koto-ku, Tokyo), deals with renewable energy-based power generation businesses that Orix has been running including solar, geothermal, wind and biomass power generation businesses. Based on knowledge that Orix has accumulated, the subsidiary operates, manages and maintains power plants with advanced expertise by securing human resources having knowledge and experience.

To enable renewable energy-based power plants to continue normal operations, the new company provides maintenance and inspection services aimed at maintaining and securing facilities and reduces power generation loss in the case of a failure by promptly restoring the facilities. In addition, the company visualizes the state of power generation by remote monitoring and data analysis in the aim of properly managing operation and maximizing the amount of power generated, it said.

As of the end of March 2018, Orix was engaged in the development/operation of 837MW (maximum output) of mega (large-scale) solar power plants using idled land and 159MW (maximum output) of rooftop solar power plants (on the roofs of factories, warehouses, etc) (about 1GW in total) (See related article).
