Terra Drone Corp (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), which runs a business related to drones, announced March 19, 2019, that it has started a service of using a drone to inspect the blades of wind power generation facilities.

Terra Drone conducts the inspection of blades by using an autonomous flight method. The company employed a drone manufactured by China-based SZ DJI Technology Co Ltd and realized optimal autonomous flight for blade inspection by applying laser-based self-position estimation technology.

With the drone-based inspection method, it takes about eight minutes to take images of a blade, enabling to take images of seven or eight wind turbines per day.
