Renewable Japan Begins Operation of 16.5MW Solar Plant in Mie

Renewable Japan Co Ltd (Minato-ku, Tokyo) started to sell electricity generated at a mega (large-scale) solar power plant with a solar panel capacity of about 16.5MW and a PV inverter output of 12MW in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, Japan.

For the plant, "RJ Toba Solar Power Plant," a mountain forest in Matsuo-cho, Toba City, was developed, and 50,666 solar panels were set up on about 199,801m2 of land. The plant was completed in December 2018, and a ceremony to celebrate the completion took place in January 2019.

The total project cost is about ¥8.1 billion (approx US$72.4 million). Electricity generated at the plant is sold to Chubu Electric Power Co Inc at a price of ¥32/kWh (excluding tax) (See related article).

The plant is expected to generate about 17,399,219kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 3,925 households, per year.

For the plant, Toshiba Plant Systems & Services Corp provided EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services. Also, LG Electronics Inc and Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC) supplied monocrystalline silicon solar panels and PV inverters supporting an input voltage of DC 1,000V, respectively.
