Pacifico Energy KK (Minato-ku, Tokyo) announced April 10, 2019, that it has started to build a solar power plant with a total solar panel output of 102.144MW and a grid capacity of 60MW in Ako-gun, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
The mega (large-scale) solar power plant, "Ako Mega Solar Power Plant," is scheduled to start operation in about the spring of 2021.
The plant is expected to generate about 125,000,000kWh of electricity per year, eliminating about 50,000t of CO2 emissions. All the electricity generated at the plant will be sold to The Kansai Electric Power Co Inc for 20 years. The FIT tariff set for the plant is ¥24/kWh.
For the construction of the plant, the site of a former golf course was redeveloped. After the development of forestland, the ratio of remaining forest is 71.5%, which is much higher than the ratio that the Forestland Development Permission System requires solar power plants (in the category of factory/office) to achieve (25%).
The solar panel and PV inverter employed for the plant are products of JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd and Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC), respectively. A consortium consisting of Bouygues Energies & Services SAS, Kumagai Gumi Co Ltd and Toho Electrical Construction Co Ltd provides EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services for the plant.
MUFG Bank Ltd formed a syndicate as an arranger, and Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co Ltd plays a role of an financial adviser. Also, Baker & McKenzie (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) became a legal adviser for the plant.
Pacifico Energy are dealing with 11 mega solar plants (total solar panel output: about 930MW) including the Ako Mega Solar Power Plant in Japan. And four of the 11 plants (total solar panel output: 227MW) have already been completed and started commercial operation.
The solar panel capacity and grid capacity of "Pacifico Energy Sakuto Mega Solar Power Plant," which Pacifico Energy is building in Mimasaka City, are 257.7MW and 150MW, respectively. The solar panel capacity is larger than that of any other solar power plant that has started operation or started to be constructed in Japan (Innovative Power of Pacifico Energy Driving Japan's Largest Solar Plant).
