Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd (SHI) announced Dec 22, 2017, that it has received an order for coal/biomass-fired power generation facilities to be built on the premises of the Kaita Base of Hiroshima Gas Co Ltd.

SHI received the order from Kaita Biomass Power, a power producer jointly established by Hiroshima Gas and The Chugoku Electric Power Co Inc. The power plant is scheduled to start operations in March 2021.

The plant will mainly combust coal but mix biomass and natural gas (for combustion assistance and backup) with it. Its generating-end output is 112MW.
