Hanwha Q Cells to Build 2MW Solar Plant on Former Agricultural Land

Hanwha Q Cells Japan Co Ltd (Minato Ward, Tokyo) will construct a mega (large-scale) solar power plant with an output of about 2MW in Awa-chou Nishinagamine, Awa City, Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, and run a power generation business at the plant.

The company performed a ceremony to pray for safe construction July 14, 2014. The plant will be built on the site of a former deserted arable land (25,000m2). It is scheduled to be completed in December 2014.

The solar panel and PV inverter employed for the plant are products of Hanwha Q Cells and Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC), respectively. And the mounting system employed for the plant uses concrete foundations placed on the ground. Sanwa Electrical Engineering Co Ltd (Osaka City) will provide EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services.

Shikoku Green Agency, an incorporated nonprofit organization (NPO) based in Awa City, will provide consulting services until the development of the plant and O&M (operation and maintenance) services after its completion. The incorporated NPO has been engaged in the development and promotion of renewable energy in the Shikoku region in collaboration with local governments.

The construction site for the plant used to be an agricultural development area but has been increasingly abandoned. Because of the efforts of the NPO, etc, the designation of the area as an agricultural development area was canceled. And the agricultural committee permitted the category of the land to be changed from agricultural land.

The new plant will be Hanwha Q Cells Japan's fourth mega solar plant in Japan and second mega solar plant in Tokushima Prefecture, following "Awanishi Solar Hills Power Plant" (output: about 2MW). For the two plants in the prefecture, the company collaborates with Shikoku Green Agency, planning to build another solar power plant (4MW) in the prefecture by using the same scheme.
