Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC) announced the total capacities of its PV inverters (for solar power generation systems) that were ordered and shipped in fiscal 2013.

According to the announcement, which was made May 27, 2014, the company received orders for about 2GW of PV inverters, which is about an 80% increase from fiscal 2012. And it shipped about 1.6GW of PV inverters, which is a rapid increase of about 240% from fiscal 2012.

The accumulated capacities of TMEIC's PV inverters that had been ordered and shipped since 2009 reached about 3GW and 2GW, respectively. The accumulated capacity of the ordered PV inverters is equivalent to a solar panel installation area of about 30km2 or an area 650 times the size of the Tokyo Dome, the company said.

In the rankings of manufacturers of PV inverters for solar power generation in the global market in 2013, which IHS, a US-based research firm, announced in April 2014, SMA Solar Technology (Germany) topped the list, followed by ABB (Switzerland), Omron and TMEIC in this order.

Omron has a large share of the market for residential PV inverters and PV inverters for systems whose output capacity is less than 50kW (eligible for low-voltage grid connection). On the other hand, TMEIC has the largest share of the market for PV inverters for mega (large-scale) solar power plants (high-voltage grid connection) in Japan.
