Cerevo Inc developed a mobile rechargeable battery that enables to connect a USB-connected keyboard to a smartphone, tablet computer, etc via Bluetooth.
Cerevo is based in Tokyo and has been engaged in the planning and development of "connected hardware." The company organized a press meeting at a "maid cafe" near Akihabara Station in Tokyo March 28, 2014.
Cerevo will sell the battery, "EneBrick," on its "Cerevo Store" online shop for a price of ¥12,800 (approx US$124) and start shipment in early April 2014.
The EneBrick has three main functions: (1) a function to wirelessly connect a USB-connected keyboard to a smartphone or tablet computer, (2) a function to make a smartphone or tablet computer stand in the slit of its body so that its screen can be easily viewed and (3) a function to charge a smartphone or tablet computer away from home.
Specifically, a USB-connected keyboard can be connected in the following way. First, the keyboard is connected to a USB port on the back side of the EneBrick. After activating the Bluetooth function of a smartphone or tablet computer and keeping a button pressed down on the top of the battery, the smartphone (or tablet computer) recognizes the EneBrick. Then, it becomes possible to use the keyboard for the mobile device.
The slit of the battery can be closed by sliding a part of the body. When the slit is closed, the battery measures approximately 124 (W) x 64 (H) x 24mm (D). It contains a lithium-ion (Li-ion) rechargeable battery with a capacity of 6,000mAh and can charge a smartphone or tablet computer. The port for a USB-connected keyboard is different from the port for charging.
