Fuji Electric Co Ltd announced Feb 19, 2014, that it will transfer its solar cell business to Fwave Co Ltd (Kodaira City, Tokyo).
Fwave is a 100% subsidiary of ZinniaTek, a New Zealand-based roof material manufacturer.
Fuji Electric was manufacturing and selling film-type amorphous silicon solar cells, looking to, for example, install the flexible and light-weight cells on curved roofs. However, sales of the cells did not take off partly due to their low efficiencies. From now, the company will focus on its PV inverter business targeted at large-scale solar power plants.
