Mitsubishi Electric Corp developed a power conditioner that has a high rated output for residential photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems to be used in Japan.
Mitsubishi will release the power conditioner, "PV-PS55J," July 30, 2013. Its rated output is 5.5kW, which is about 40% higher than that of the company's previous product (4.0kW). The company aims to respond to the need for high-capacity power generation systems.
A power conditioner is a device that converts direct-current power generated by a PV module to alternating-current power so that it can be used at home. With the high rated output, it became possible to decrease the number of power conditioners to be installed, reducing cost and installation work.
The PV-PS55J also has a high efficiency. With a system that generates a pseudo-sinusoidal voltage by combining outputs from multiple inverters having different voltages, Mitsubishi realized a power conversion efficiency of 96.0%, which is one of the industry's highest of all power conditioners for outdoor use. Its price is ¥630,000 (approx US$6,311, including tax).
