Unitika Ltd developed a film that realizes a light transmission rate of 10-5 with a 5μm-thick light-blocking layer.

The film was announced at the 4th Film Tech Japan, which took place from April 10 to 12, 2013. The company plans to sell the film for the shutters, diaphragms, spacers and washers of cameras, anti-reflection/light-blocking tapes inside optical devices, light-blocking plates, etc.

The film was developed by adding Unitika's own material having a high light-blocking effect to a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polyamide (PA) film. Light-blocking films currently available in the market use carbon as a light blocking material, and they are as thick as 30μm. Therefore, the new film can reduce the thickness to 1/6.

Also, it is possible to make a multi-layer film with the new material and add a surface characteristic.
