Sony Corp announced that it has exhibited a black-and-white OLED panel for radiation therapy at RSNA2012, an academic conference on medical radiation devices, which runs from Nov 25 to 29, 2012, in Chicago, the US.
Sony plans to leverage the fact that the panel has a higher black color reproducibility than LCD panels and sell the panel as a display capable of showing medical images whose quality is as high as that of films.
The screen size and pixel count of the OLED panel are 20.5 inches and 2,048 x 2,560, respectively. The high black color reproducibility was realized by using technologies that Sony developed for monitors designed for broadcast stations, the company said. The lowest brightness of the panel is 0.001cd/m2 or less, and its maximum brightness at the time of calibration is 500cd/m2.
