Samsung Electronics Co Ltd prototyped a 120Hz, double-speed LCD TV with an 82-inch LCD panel that has 3840 x 2160 pixels, four times the pixels of full HD resolution.
The company exhibited the panel, which it calls "UD (Ultra Definition) class," at SID (Society for Information Display) 2008. The event took place in Los Angeles from May 18 to 23, 2008.
The panel used LEDs as its backlights. Samsung realized 150% of the NTSC color gamut, the comapny said. The LCD panel can display 4K2K format video. In addition, its video rendering performance was enhanced by the adoption of 120Hz operation, the company said.
Samsung also exhibited the "e-Board," an electronic blackboard featuring multi-touch panel function, using the same 3840 x 2160 resolution, 82-inch LCD panel. This application is useful when providing information at public facilities and outlets, for example, the company said.
