Sharp Corp developed a 2.2-inch LCD panel with a thickness of 0.68mm.
The new panel was achieved by reducing the thickness of glass substrate and backlight, the company said. It is intended for use in mobile devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras.
AU Optronics Corp (AUO) of Taiwan also developed a thin LCD panel, a 1.9-inch model with a thickness of 0.69mm, targeting mobile devices. Compared to AUO's panel, Sharp's prototype is 0.01mm thinner.
The panel features a resolution of 320 x 240. With the adoption of new Mobile Advanced Super View LCD based on Sharp's proprietary technology, the prototype delivers a contrast ratio of 2,000:1 and the viewing angle of 176° (vertical, horizontal and diagonal). The response time between 10% and 90% is reportedly 8ms.
The prototype will be on display at FPD International 2007 from Oct 24, 2007.
