Japan Asia Investment Co Ltd (JAIC) and Smart Solar Corp announced that they have built a floating solar power plant with an output of about 1.52MW on a reservoir in Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, and started to sell electricity.

The plant is expected to generate about 1,870,000kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 530 households, per year. Electricity generated at the plant is sold to Shikoku Electric Power Co Inc at a price of ¥32/kWh. The total project cost is about ¥500 million (approx US$4.45 million).

Nippon Rietec Co Ltd provided EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services for the plant. The floating mounting system employed for the plant is a product of SMC Tech Co Ltd.
