Fujisaki Electric to Build Biomass Power Plant Using Only Bamboo as Fuel

Fujisaki Electric Co Ltd (Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture) will build the "Sanyo-onoda Bamboo Biomass Power Plant" biomass power plant, which combusts only bamboo, in Sanyo-onoda City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.

Fujisaki Electric had a ground-breaking ceremony to pray for safe construction of the plant Oct 17, 2017. The company enabled to use bamboo as a fuel by introducing its own technologies for chipping and combustion furnace. According to the company, it is the world's first biomass power plant that combusts only bamboo.

The plant will have an output of 2MW and is expected to generate about 15,800MWh of electricity per year. Bamboo, which is used as a fuel, is procured in Yamaguchi Prefecture, in the aim of realizing local production/consumption of energy.

Fujisaki Electric cuts, transports and chips bamboos in cooperation with local companies. Also, it will provide a total engineering service including the planning/designing of the plant, procurement, construction, management and maintenance. The plant will start to be constructed in December 2017 and start operations in January 2019.
