Muroran Biomass Power Generation GK (Muroran City, Hokkaido), which is financed by JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corp, will build a 74.9MW woody biomass power plant in Muroran City.

It is one of the largest-scale power plants that combust only woody biomass. Muroran Biomass Power Generation had a ceremony to pray for safe construction of the plant July 21, 2017, and started the construction Aug 1, 2017. The plant is expected to start operations in the spring of 2020.

At the plant, palm shells imported from Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia will be used as fuel. Electricity generated at the plant will be sold at a price of ¥24/kWh.
