Sony Corp introduced its new products at a press conference that took place prior to the opening of CES 2017.
Among them, the main feature is "A1E Series," a new OLED TV product. For the TV, Sony employed the "Acoustic Surface" technology, which enables to emit sound directly from a TV screen by vibrating the screen.
Specifically, high-pitched sounds are mainly output from the screen, and low-pitched sounds are output from the speaker embedded in the part that supports the display from behind. To vibrate the screen, there is a horizontally-long module on the back side of the display. And an "actuator module" is mounted near each end of the module to generate vibration.
Sony said that it is difficult to apply the Acoustic Surface technology to LCD displays.
"When the screen of an LCD display is vibrated, it can affect the image quality," it said.
